Please support us to maintain our ongoing respite service and our efforts to raise funds to purchase a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Thank you
We provide Dementia Respite Provision and believe in delivering the best possible resources to families living with Dementia in Cambridgeshire. There is a real shortage of respite care in the local community, so the Dementia Respite Provision was developed as it was evident family carers were finding it difficult accessing respite and having the opportunity to have some down time and re-charge.
To best facilitate our services, we operate a dedicated Dementia Respite Hub in Soham with provision for a wide range of games and activities in our well-equipped rooms. In addition, there is also a sensory/relaxation room well suited to people with Dementia who often have additional care needs. The Hub also has a garden which enables outside opportunities to further meet individuals’ needs and help relax everyone. The Respite Provision is personal; engaging; stimulating and safe so that the family carer can feel confident their loved one is in a safe environment and will have a meaningful day.
We ensure we keep a personal touch and provide person centred support. We bring in services to meet individuals’ support needs. The Dementia Respite Provision also offers supported trips throughout the year, including theatre trips, museum trips and other places of interest. Families living with dementia really appreciate these opportunities to go to places knowing they have support during the outing. Many families can feel isolated due to the challenges caring for a person with dementia bring. We have however found that for some of the individuals suffering with dementia transferring in and out of vehicles is very difficult and for some people it has been impossible.
So that we can continue to support individuals living with dementia who have significant mobility needs and overcome the transferring barriers we are seeking to purchase a wheelchair accessible vehicle. This will not only allow us to meet the needs of more families living with dementia it will also reduce risks to individuals from falls whilst transferring and reduces risks to our volunteers who currently lift wheelchairs in and out of a vehicle. We are proposing to purchase a vehicle with wheelchair accessibility which will enable the charity to do more group trips and be more inclusive for those with higher needs.
